Sending bulk SMS people want: consent and opt-out

Who you may text, how to let people stop, and the content that gets accounts closed.

Updated 2026-10-13

Only text people who agreed

Send to people who gave you their number for this purpose: customers who asked for order updates, users who signed up for alerts, members who opted in to offers. Bought, rented or scraped lists are not allowed.

Give a way to stop

Marketing messages should say how to opt out, for example Reply STOP. When someone asks to stop, remove the number from every list before your next send.

Say who you are

Start or end the message with your brand name, so people know who is writing.

Send at sensible times

Send in the recipient's daytime. Many countries limit marketing messages at night or on public holidays.

What gets accounts stopped

Phishing, pretending to be a bank, carrier, government or another brand, shortened links that hide where they lead, and content that is illegal where it is received. We stop accounts that send these and may hold the balance while we check.
